Marrow drive seeks minority donors, LoHud.com, June 3, 2011

NYACK - There will be a bone marrow drive for Heather Yearwood, a 51-year-old Caribbean-American woman from Mount Vernon, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Central Nyack Community Center, 58 Waldron Ave. There will be food vendors and activities for the family. Experts estimate that Yearwood has only a 7 percent chance of finding a life-saving match because of the lack of minority donors available. 1st Annual Bowl For Life
Intn'l Wine and Food Tasting Fundraiser

Thank you to those who attended the 1st Annual Bowl For Life Int'l Wine and Food Tasting and to the generous people who made monetary donations. 

We were able to add 15 people to the Be The Match Registry. We gave everyone an opportunity to win a prize by handing out raffles at the door to those who attended.  Heather Yearwood, the leukemia patient for whom we held a bone marrow drive for, before and during the wine tasting, and her husband Irvin Nash won the big raffle of the night – a 4 night cruise for two – it was divine order.   

We were able to raise $3500 from donors and ticket sales. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our incredible sponsors: Michael Rogart at JoMart Chocolates; Jim Mones at the The New York Times Stores -- great gifts!!! Teru Coleman at 5Lynx for the 4-night cruise prize and last but not least, Michael Grossberg at The Grape Exchange in New Rochelle, NY, who provided the great wines!
